She helps clients learn new powerful techniques to overcome mood and anxiety disorders and to improve the quality of life.
Marla works with teenagers, adults, and seniors, as well as veterans needing help adjusting to life post-military or combat. She is particularly interested in treating stress symptoms related to occupational problems, academic challenges, relationship problems, mood and anxiety problems, substance abuse and addictions such as pornography. She is also an accredited Community Care Provider for the Department of Veterans affairs and provides services for veterans facing challenges readjusting to post military life and transitioning into civilian culture.
Marla earned her Master of Social Work from California State University, Stanislaus and graduated with Honors.
She has completed several years of cognitive behavioral therapy training and is a Level 3 TEAM-CBT Therapist, (which is an advanced method of cognitive behavioral therapy based on the model taught by David Burns, M.D.) Although her primary framework is TEAM-CBT, Marla is certified in Equine Assisted Growth and Learning (EAGALA) and is also a Daring Way Facilitator (a framework based on methodology and the research by Dr. Brené Brown).
Marla is a Santa Cruz native and a mother of two teen boys. She enjoys spending time with her significant other, loves to travel, and likes live concerts. She also enjoys football and loves being by the beach.
