Online Therapy is not a new brand of therapy. It is the same high-quality psychotherapy offered on-site, only with a new and modern platform that allows you to connect from the comfort of your home or office, without the hassle of commute and time away from your family and obligations.
There’s no more need to hire a babysitter, stay in traffic, ask for time off from your boss on a weekly basis, or feel frustrated trying to find the address to the office or a parking spot. Instead, enjoy the flexibility of evening appointments, lunchtime appointments, and some weekend time slots.
Licensed in Toronto, Canada and California, USA, Dr. Katie Dashtban offers virtual therapy for individuals, couples, and families.
Psychotherapy is more than just talk therapy. It is a structured and goal-oriented approach that seeks to change a person’s mindset and the way their brain functions. It helps individuals manage a broad spectrum of emotional and mental difficulties so they can function better in their day-to-day life. It aims to stamp out or reduce disruptive symptoms to help improve their overall well-being and promote healing..
During the first intake, you and your psychologist will identify measurable goals, which can be achieved within 5 weeks. The intake session also involves taking a thorough history of your medical, psychological and social issues impacting your health. Additional 5-week courses of treatment will be added to your care as they become necessary. Your final session is going to be on Relapse Prevention where you will practice all the methods that have made you feel good again and consider future circumstances that could cause a relapse. Together, we will put together a maintenance program in which you can learn how to prevent future problems from becoming overwhelming.
Each patient is followed for check-in sessions at 3-month, 6-month and 1-year marks. And all patients are invited to consider Dr. Dashtban as their personal or family Doctor of Psychology for a lifetime.
Each session is 1 hour and 40 minutes long which gives us enough time to address and process one or two presenting issues in their entirety and still have time to practice methods to overcome those challenges. We also use this time to go over your Brief Mood Surveys (T in Testing) from the last session and today’s session to determine your progress in therapy by the way of improvements in your negative emotions.
Weekly psychotherapy homework is an integral and strongly essential part of your recovery. The specific homework will of course depend on your presenting problems and will be tailor-made to fit your therapeutic goals.
Psychotherapy is an empirically oriented process, where everything is measured. You and your therapist will work together to alter thought and behavioral patterns that keep you from feeling good.
